Vancouver Whitecaps FC
Minnesota 2 Vancouver 0
The season has come to an end for Vancouver. A loss away to Minnesota stabs the dagger into the hearts of Caps fans. While disappointing, it is time to move on and figure out the problems in this squad. I like majority of the Vancouver roster. Sure, there are players like Nerwinski that give me a headache at times, but for the most part I believe in the squad. Only area that could really improve players-wise in my view is the center back position. Other than that though, the problem is purely tactical. Across the final five games of the Season, Vanni used four different formations. Each one has their own problems. The 4-2-2-2 drained energy fast, while the 3-4-2-1 left holes defensively. Personally I'd use a 4-2-3-1 but I am no expert. Why, you may ask? Because four of the five teams we played during that final stretch used it and it was fine. While we did beat two of the teams that used the tactic, It was quite clear that they could keep up with us in the later stages of the game; especially Seattle and Minnesota. The 4-2-3-1 would be a great way to figure out just how good our players really are compared to the rest of the league because the rest of the league uses the formation. I say it is worth a shot.
Pacific FC
Forge 0 Pacific 1, Cavalry 1 Pacific 0
Would you call Pacific's season a success? Of course it still has the playoffs, but regular season alone, what exactly were your personal standards going into this season? I'll tell you one thing; This is exactly how I thought the season would go. We performed well and made it to the playoffs with relative ease. Compared to the other playoff teams we definitely had more of a scare but points wise, we are the exact same. Except for Forge FC. Forge are the scariest team in the CPL. Period. Not only because of their outstanding goal difference but just their fear factor. I do not feel anxious when we play Ottawa. I do when it is Forge. That is the type of level I want to see from the tridents. A formidable opponent that rarely goes into slums. Pending on playoffs this year it may be my new standard for PFC.
Canada West Mens: UFV
TWU 1 UFV 3, UFV 2 TWU 1
UFV have risen from the ashes. The Cascades have not lost a match since early September and just won back-to-back games against the Spartans. Although they had a wonderful road trip to Alberta, the Cascades are set to make Rotary Stadium their fortress. With only one loss at home the Cascades could do great things during their four game home stretch to end off the season. This includes matches against UBC and UNBC, both of which are only barely above the Cascades. Can these boys solidify their place in the Canada West Playoffs?
Canada West Womens: UNBC
UNBC 2 Calgary 1, UNBC 0 Calgary 0
The Women's regular season ends this weekend, and UNBC are giving it their all to earn one of BC's play-in spots. Perhaps they can even aim for a top-three automatic spot. With Calgary within reach, everything is to play for as they host the two interior universities on Friday and Sunday. The Timberwolves are not out of the woods yet; The Vikes and Heat are still hungry for UNBC's final ticket to the play-ins. UBCO and UNBC play each other on the final day of the season for what is set to be a game that comes down to the wire. With UBCO coming back from a trip to Alberta before the match, it could be the perfect opportunity for UNBC play post-season matches for the first time in several years.
